Open the report
When a UK Right to Work check is completed, you can view its results on a report. To open the report from your Certn dashboard, use one of the following methods:
- Select the application.
- On the application’s row, open the Actions menu and select View Report.
Note: If the application status in the dashboard is Waiting on candidate, then the check is not yet complete, and you can't open a report.
Explanation of results
Certn’s UK Right to Work check can receive three possible results:
- Cleared indicates that your candidate successfully passed the check.
- Review indicates that your candidate did not pass the check.
- Cancelled indicates that the check could not be completed.
Cleared or Review result
A Cleared or Review result is determined by whether or not your candidate passed all four identity verification criteria for the digital right to work check. These include Face match, Liveness, Identity verification, and Document verification. For more information about these criteria, refer to our overview article about this check. If your candidate does not pass one or more of the criteria, then the check’s result will be Review.
If your check result is Cleared or Review, then a detailed right to work report will become available in your dashboard. You can download this report and use it to support your next steps:
- If the result is Cleared, you’ll use the report to finalise the check.
- If the result is Review, you’ll need to complete the check manually.
Learn more about these next steps for Cleared and Review results.
Cancelled result
A Cancelled result most commonly occurs if your candidate does not have the prerequisite identity documents for our UK right to work check. To complete our check, your candidate must have either a British passport or an Irish passport (or Irish passport card). If they cannot produce one of these required documents, then our check cannot be completed and will be cancelled. Learn more about possible next steps for a Cancelled result.
Next steps
In this section, you’ll learn about possible next steps for each result that our UK Right to Work checks can receive.
Cleared result: Finalise the check
If the check result is Cleared, a right to work report becomes available in your Certn dashboard. Your next step with this result is to finalise the check by simply confirming that the selfie and passport in the report you receive from us matches the person who presents for work. You can complete this final step in person or online using your preferred video call service.
Review result: Raise a new UK Right to Work check or complete a manual verification
If the check result is Review, be sure to first review the detailed right to work report that becomes available in your dashboard. A Review result typically occurs because an applicant's documents were improperly submitted.
When submitting documents for the UK Right to Work check, the applicant must ensure the photos of their documents are clear and unobstructed. Documents which are improperly submitted will require you to either submit a new UK Right to Work check through Certn or perform a manual UK Right to Work check. A manual UK Right to Work check involves meeting with your candidate in person to review their identity documents. The UK government has guidance on carrying out manual Right to Work checks on their website.
Document photos with any of the following issues can be considered improperly submitted:
- photo glare,
- information obscured by fingers or other sources,
- redacted information,
- blurriness, or
- document not in full view.
The above list is not exhaustive and is meant to provide a set of common issues which result in documents not being properly submitted. Applicants are provided with instructions to avoid these issues and 3 submission attempts when submitting their documents for a UK Right to Work check.
Cancelled result: Complete a manual verification
If the check result is Cancelled, then we cannot complete the check, and you’ll need to perform a manual right to work check. This involves meeting with your candidate in person to review their identity documents.
Applicant lacks proper documentation
Without the proper documentation, Certn cannot attempt another UK Right to Work check. Instead, you’ll need to perform a manual right to work check. This involves meeting with your candidate in person to review their identity documents. The UK government has guidance on carrying out manual Right to Work checks on their website.
Applicant opts out of the application
If an applicant chooses to not complete the application or actively declines to provide the required consent to run the UK Right to Work check, the check result will be listed as Cancelled. You will need to either submit a new UK Right to Work check through Certn or perform a manual UK Right to Work check.
