Introduction

Certn offers international criminal record checks in many countries. Depending on the country in which the check is ordered, the cost, turnaround time, information available, and forms required vary.

You can order an international check when your candidate has at least one current or past address that is not in Canada or the US. When you order an international check, you can select countries to check, or you can allow your candidate's address history to determine countries to check. Whether you select countries or not, you can stay in control of the checks that run and bill to your account, thanks to our Follow-Up Flow feature. When enabled, the Follow-Up Flow identifies applications for you to review and confirm the countries to check and the amount you'll pay. Who can order this check

In Canada, this check is available to Human Resources (HR) users. 

In the US, this check is available to both Human Resources (HR) and Property Manager (PM) users.

To order this check, your billing type must be set to monthly invoicing. 

Turnaround time for this check

The time it takes to complete an international criminal record check varies by country. On average, it takes between six days to one month to receive results. Place order

The first stage is ordering the check. Depending on how you order checks from Certn, you might order from your Certn dashboard, your applicant tracking software (ATS), or via our API.

Candidate application

After you order this check, your candidate receives an email inviting them to complete an application. During this stage, they'll verify their identity and provide the information we need to start processing the check. Review order

After your candidate submits their application, our Follow-Up Flow feature may flag it for your review. This allows you an opportunity to review the countries to check and the total cost of the order before it proceeds. Not all applications are flagged. Processing

The processing stage begins after your candidate submits their application and after you review and approve the order, if it was flagged by our Follow-Up Flow feature. 

While the check is being processed, its status in your dashboard appears as In Progress. This status typically indicates that the following progress is being made toward returning your check results:

• Communication with your candidate to obtain any additional information or documents required to complete the check, based on the requirements of the particular country
• Communication with authorities of the particular country to obtain any required authorizations and to obtain check results

Certn strives to keep you informed during the processing stage. For example, in some cases we may reach out to let you know that we've contacted your candidate for more information.
