Are you in the right place? If you need to complete a background check that was requested by your potential employer or landlord, then this article is for you.
Introduction
At Certn, we help employers and landlords perform background checks on their candidates. And, we make it easy and fast for candidates like you to complete a background check. You can complete your background check whenever and wherever you are. You can even use your smartphone!
In this article, you'll learn about the three main steps to completing your background check. Each step is described in more detail in the next sections, but in brief, the application process goes like this:
1. Start your application
First, you'll get access to your background check through the email invite you received. Then, in our online application, you'll agree to the terms of the background check, provide your consent, and provide your name and phone number.
2. Fill out the application
After you provide your name and phone number, you'll find additional pages with tasks or fields to complete. Certn offers many types of background checks, so the pages you see depend on what your potential employer or landlord selected when they ordered your background check.
3. Review and submit
When you're done filling out the application, you'll have an opportunity to review the details you entered to make sure they're correct. Then, you'll submit your application, and you're done!

Start your application
Ready to get started with your background check? Here's what to do:
- Check your email
In your inbox, find the background check invitation email from your potential employer or landlord. (If you don't see it, try checking your junk folder.) Read the email's content for important details about your background check. Then, select the Get Started button in the email. Our online application opens in your browser. - Start your application
On the first page, you'll find some statements that help us to confirm that you're eligible for and agree to the background check. If you agree to the statements, select the matching check boxes, and then select Next to continue. - Consent to the background check
Next, you'll find one or more pages that ask for consent to run the background check. On each page, when you finish reading and are ready to continue, select Yes, I agree and then select Next. - Provide your name and phone number
On the next page, fill the fields to provide us with your name and phone number. To avoid delays in your background check, enter your name as it appears on government-issued ID or your birth certificate. When you're finished, select Next.

Fill out the application
After you finish the steps in Start your application, you'll find additional pages with tasks or fields to complete. Certn offers many types of background checks, so the pages you see depend on what your potential employer or landlord selected when they ordered your background check.
For help completing these next pages, watch for guidance and tips that appear on the pages themselves. Here are some common places to find help in our online application:

After you've completed all the tasks and fields, you'll arrive on a page that asks you to confirm the details you've entered so far. When you reach this page, go to the next section of this article, Review and submit.

Review and submit
You're almost done! There are just a few things left to do:
- Review the details you entered
After completing all other pages, you'll arrive on a page where you can confirm the details you entered. Review the details carefully—making sure they're correct is the best way to ensure that your background check is processed promptly. If you need to make any changes, select the pencil icon shown below. Or, if everything looks good, select Confirm to continue. - Verify your email
On the next page, you may be prompted to verify your email address. If so, check your email inbox and follow the instructions provided to continue. - Submit your application
On the next page, if you're ready to submit, select Submit Application. A new page appears to confirm your submission, and you can close the browser tab. - Check for a confirmation email
After you submit, check your email inbox for an email message that confirms your application was submitted. If you don't see it, try checking your junk folder.
