Introduction
A credit check includes information on an individual's credit activity and current credit situation. Reports may include tradelines, bankruptcies, public records, collections information and a credit score. The check locates the credit file based on the name and addresses provided by the applicant.
Turnaround time for this check
On average credit checks are completed within 60 seconds of an applicant completing their information.
Stages of this check
There are several ways to order a credit check from Certn, including via our web application, via our API, or via an integration with your applicant tracking software (ATS).
When you use Certn’s web application to invite your candidate to complete a credit check (most common method), the stages of this check are as follows:
1. Order
You place an order that includes a credit check.
2. Application
Your applicant receives an email invitation to provide details for the check, including their name and address history.
3. Processing
Certn processes the check using the information received from your applicant.
4. Results
The check’s results become available in your Certn dashboard.
Applicant experience
When you order a credit check your applicant receives an email inviting them to complete an online form for the included checks. Through this process, an applicant will supply Certn with their:
- full Name,
- address, and
- social insurance number (SIN)*.
*Providing a SIN is optional and is not available if you are ordering checks through Certn’s new Applicant Portal.
Note: The name and address provided by the applicant must match the information available to credit reporting agencies such as Equifax. A discrepancy between what is provided by the applicant and what is available by credit reporting agencies will result in a No Records Found, ERS Unavailable or No Hit result. For more information on possible next steps after receiving a No Records Found or No Hit result see our credit check results Certn Help article.
