Documents required for a Nationally Coordinated History Check (NCCHC) in CertnCentric

In this article, you'll learn about the documents required for a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks offered through InterCheck Global Pty Ltd ("InterCheck"). InterCheck is a wholly owned subsidiary of Certn and is an accredited body authorised by the National Police Checking Service (NPCS) to provide Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks (NCCHCs). The NPCS is facilitated by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).

Getting started

Before an applicant starts their application, they'll need to prepare three required identity documents from the three categories outlined in this article. Each identity document can only be used once and the combination of the identity documents provided must contain the applicant's full legal name, date of birth, and an image of them.

If the applicant provides identity documents using a former name, such as a maiden name, they'll also need to provide evidence of the name change.

 

What an applicant will need: 

 

Things for applicants to take into account when providing their ID:

  • Photo ID: The Primary Use in the Community Document must include an applicant’s photo. If this cannot be provided, they must provide a passport-style photograph certified by a person listed in Schedule 2 of the Statutory Declarations Regulations 1993 (Cth).
  • Change of name: The names on all documents must match. If the names on an applicant’s ID documents don’t match, they will also need to provide either a change of name certificate or an Australian marriage certificate issued by an Australian state or territory government department, in addition to the three identity documents.
  • We are unable to accept church or celebrant-issued marriage certificates as these are not formally recognised as an ID document under the Australian National Identity Proofing Guidelines.

We'll also need the applicant to link to their ID through one of these methods:

  • Verification of their identity through our biometric solution which will remotely compare them to their photo identity document; or
  • Requesting an image with them holding the presented photo ID against their face. The image must be taken in real time as part of the application process. 

 

Commencement of Identity Document  

A document that supports the commencement of a person’s identity in Australia.

At least ONE of the following documents will need to be provided:

  • Full Australian birth certificate (not an extract or a birth card)
  • Current Australian passport (can accept passports up to 3 years expired once verified by our team through the DVS)
  • Official Australian visa, supported by a foreign passport
  • Current ImmiCard (not expired)
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate

 

Primary Use in the Community Document  

Usually a government issued photographic identification

At least ONE of the following documents will need to be provided:

  • Current Australian drivers licence, learner permit or provisional licence, showing a signature and photo
  • Foreign passport issued by a country other than Australia with a valid visa or valid entry stamp or equivalent (not expired)
  • Current proof of age or photo identity card, with a signature and photo
  • For persons under 18 years of age with no other Primary ID, a current student identification card with a signature and photo
  • Current Australian passport (can accept passports up to 3 years expired once verified by our team through the DVS)


Secondary Use in the Community Document  

Demonstrates that the person is operating in the community under the claimed identity

At least ONE of the following documents will need to be provided:

  • Medicare card
  • Bank card (must be from separate financial institutions if providing more than one, without payment card numbers)
  • Credit card (must be from separate financial institutions if providing more than one, without payment card numbers)
  • Photo identity card issued by the Australian Government or a state or territory government (must include name and photo)
  • Evidence of right to an Australian government benefit (such as Centrelink or Veterans’ Affairs)
  • Tax File Number advice letter issued by ATO
  • Notice of Assessment letter issued by ATO
  • Working With Children's Check card (letter versions are not accepted)
  • Enrolment with the Australian Electoral Commission
  • Australian tertiary student photo identity document
  • Certified official academic transcript from an Australian University
  • Australian secondary student photo identity document
  • Aviation Security Identification Card
  • Maritime Security Identification card
  • Photo identity card issued to an officer by an Australian police force
  • Photo identity card issued by the Australian Defence Force
  • Security guard or crowd control photo licence
  • Foreign government issued documents (for example, drivers licence, birth certificate)Note: Documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by a NAATI accredited translation.
  • Certificate of identity issued by Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Document of identity issued by Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Convention travel document secondary (United Nations) issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Consular photo identity card issued by Foreign Affairs and Trade
  • Trusted referees report
  • Credit reference check
  • Occupational licence (government issued, such as a Security Guard/Crowd Control photo licence)
