Note: The Canadian criminal record checks Certn offers are name-based criminal record checks. Name-based criminal record checks are one of two types of criminal record checks in Canada. The other type, certified criminal record checks, uses a person's fingerprints to confirm identity. Basic Canadian Criminal Record Check
The Basic Canadian Criminal Record Check searches the standard federal Canadian criminal records database. Reported results are based on the candidate's name and date of birth. This check verifies the accuracy of disclosed criminal convictions for indictable, hybrid and summary offences for which a pardon has not been granted. Note that not all summary convictions are reported and therefore cannot always be confirmed with this check. This check requires a successful identification verification prior to fulfillment of this service.
Enhanced Canadian Criminal Record Check
The Enhanced Canadian Criminal Record Check includes the Basic Canadian Criminal Record Check plus additional searches of the CPIC investigative Data Bank and/or the Police Information Portal (PIP). Reported results are based on the candidate's name and date of birth. This check verifies the accuracy of disclosed criminal convictions for indictable, hybrid and summary offences for which a pardon has not been granted. This check also includes a response of "clear" or "not clear" to disclosable record information regarding summary convictions, outstanding warrants, pending court charges, indictable offences, peace bonds, and any prohibitions or probation orders in effect from both the CPIC Investigative Data Bank and the Police Information Portal (PIP). This check requires a successful identification verification prior to fulfillment of this service. Note that in Ontario, this check may be referred to as a Judicial Matters Check.

To order a Canadian Criminal Record Check (CCRC) from CertnCentric you must have the applicant’s email address.
Any case ordered with a Canadian Criminal Record Check must include a OneID check. The OneID check will automatically be selected for you in the order process when you select the CCRC and cannot be removed from the order unless the Canadian Criminal Record Check is removed first.

Turnaround time for this check
On average, Certn’s Canadian Criminal Record Checks are complete within 4 hours of an applicant submitting their information.
In some cases the turnaround time can exceed 4 hours.
Stages of this check
Canadian Criminal Record checks ordered through CertnCentric go through the following stages:
1. Order
You place an order that includes a Canadian Criminal Record Check.
2. Application
The applicant receives an email invitation to complete the case that includes a Canadian Criminal Record Check
3. Processing
Certn processes the check using the information supplied by the applicant.
4. Results
The check’s results become available to you in CertnCentric and to the applicant in the applicant portal.
Applicant experience
When you order a Canadian Criminal Record Check your applicant receives an email inviting them to complete an online form for the included checks. Through this process, an applicant will supply Certn with their:
- consent and authorization to run the check,
- full name (including previous names and aliases),
- date of birth,
- address details for the last 5 years with at least one Canadian address,
- address details of the position or property for which they are applying (includes options for no specific address and remote work), as well as
- signed Canadian Criminal Record Check informed consent and conviction declaration form.
