Lever ATS | Integration Setup Guide

This guide explains how to use the CertnCentric-native Lever integration to request and manage background checks directly from Lever.

The CertnCentric × Lever ATS integration enables recruiting teams to initiate and track Certn background checks directly from Lever. By connecting Lever to CertnCentric, recruiters no longer need to switch between systems—checks are triggered automatically when candidates reach the designated stage, and statuses/reports sync back into Lever.

Before you begin

Note: To set up a CertnCentric ↔ Lever integration, you will need to be a user with admin permissions in your Lever ATS Instance.

  • Lever Admin: You must be an Org Admin or Integrations Admin-People to set up this integration.
  • CertnCentric Admin: You must have the necessary permissions to access ‘ATS Integration’ settings.

Setup within Lever 

  1. Login to Lever and locate the settings menu.

  1. Get your API Key and Webhook signature token from Lever.

    1. Go to Lever's settings (top right drop down)
    2. Navigate to the "Integrations and API" section and select the "Partner Integrations" tab at the top of the page.
    3. Locate the Certn integration from the "Background and reference checks" list.
    4. Toggle the button next to Certn to expand the section and click the "Generate New Key" button.
    5. Save the generated API key somewhere safe. (This is to be used later during setup in CertnCentric ATS Integration Config)

Setup within the Client Portal 

  1. Login to CertnCentric Client Portal and locate the settings menu

    1. Navigate to Settings > "Integrations" > “ATS Integrations tab” and click ‘+ Add’ to initiate the "Lever Integration".

  1. Enter the Lever API Key → ‘Validate API Key’

  1. Copy the Webhook URL and complete ‘Candidate State Change’ Webhook setup in Lever and paste the ‘Signature Token’ obtained from Lever (see step d. below).

Enabling Lever Webhook

  1. Navigate back to Lever settings and enable ‘Candidate Stage Change” toggle.

    1. Navigate to Lever's settings > "Integrations and API" section and select the "Webhooks" tab.
    2. Paste the webhook URL copied earlier from CertnCentric Client Portal under Lever webhook configuration.
    3. Copy the webhook signature from Lever and paste it under the ‘webhook signature token’ field in Certn Client Portal.

  1. Define the desired ‘Report URL Type’:

    1. Select ‘PDF URL’ if you want to access the direct PDF Download Link in Lever when the case results are available
    2. Select ‘Client Portal URL (Authenticated)’ to opt for a link that requires Certn Client Portal authentication before accessing the report.

  1. Set desired Lever candidate Trigger stage from available values in the drop-down (i.e, Reference check).

  2. Assign at least one default package to use with your Lever Integration then click on “Save changes”.

  3. This will complete the Lever set up.
